The Cafe of Delhi

Tempting whiffs of deliciously scented coffee waft into my nose as I glide through the bustling Cafe of Delhi, balancing an impressive number of plates upon my left arm and two cups of steaming hot cappuccinos in my free hand. Gracefully flying from table to table, I hand each of my fellow people their respective orders, occasionally enjoying some pleasant
banter with pleased customers.

I smile consistently throughout my working hours as I breathe in the vibrant ambience of the tiny but lively restaurant: the pleasant buzz of chatter between colleagues and friends harmonizing with the frequent hum of grinding coffee beans. Rough formal suits mesh with cottony floral dresses, intricately woven sweaters, and furry yellow coats. Every second, a different set of dynamic people walk into the café, chiming the bell as they whoosh past the heavily designed glass doors.

I love to observe the diverse personalities arriving in our little abode, for there is something to learn from each person. We usually receive a large influx of youthful people who may be wanting to take a break from their busy days by socializing with their friends. Today, we host a fashionable young woman wearing high heels and a maroon velvet dress. Her features remain a mystery, hidden behind a wide pair of cat-eyed sunglasses. She stares out of the window with an air of masked loneliness around her, and I wonder what could have grieved this elegant lady.

Appropriate to the mood of an early brunch or a late afternoon getaway- the Café of Delhi is aesthetically themed with homely shades of chocolate brown, except the lovely window drapes that vary from an emerald-green to a happy cerulean blue, which further brighten up the café. Not only that, but these curtains are also hardly ever drawn closed, so the sun rays
shine through to make the café exquisitely and naturally lit.

Counters line up beside each other, displaying several mouth-watering foodstuffs and occupying as much of our limited space as possible. Beneath the coffee machines and a basket of fluffy baguettes lie some glass-encased appetizers that taste best with our bittersweet fruit smoothies.
